Cerro Chato

cerro chato la fortuna

It is located in La Fortuna, on the southeast side of the Arenal Volcano, in the province of Alajuela in the northwest of the country. It has a height of 1,140 meters above sea level and has been inactive for 3,500 years.

The beginning of the walk is relatively easy for those who like hiking, in this section of the route you will be able to see a beautiful view of the Arenal volcano and its top if the clouds do not prevent it. You will not see it again until you reach the top of Cerro Chato. But the final part is done through a steep slope, usually made up of natural stone and earth stairs. until you reach the crater area at 1100 meters high, where you can see an incredible lagoon.

The total route is about 3 kilometers and about 5-6 hours (round trip) and you must go to the Arenal Observatory Lodge where you must pay 10 dollars to access and where you will register your entrance for security.

We recommend this excursion with a guide and in the summer season.
